Who are PaP?Based in Basingstoke in the UK, ProActive Parents (PaP) is a support and information group which operates for parents and carers of a child with disability, whatever the age or disability of the child. PaP is organised for parents by parents. We exist to share the concerns and experiences related to raising children with disabilities. We know that this affects the whole family and can create severe physical, emotional, social and financial strains. We believe that sharing knowledge, problems and solutions with other parents in similar situations can help make life easier. By coming together as a group we do not feel isolated as we are able to talk to each other, share our experiences and advice, and the experiences and knowledge of others. We have the backing of the local SCOPE and MENCAP societies. What are PaP’s Aims?
MembershipPaP is not a fundraising group. We finance ourselves by a collection at each meeting, by donations and through an annual membership fee. Parents, Carers, Professionals and other interested individuals are all welcome to join. If you would like to become a member of PaP and receive our Newsletter, please e-mail us. How do we keep in touch? It is our intention to organise meetings, preferably with a guest speaker, as well as coffee mornings on a regular basis. Information with details of subject, venue and times will be published in our newsletter. Our Newsletter includes articles relating to the needs of disabled children and their parents, changes in legislation, local news and any other subject which helps PaP to achieve its aim of supporting parents with children with disabilities. We hope that our members will contribute by sending their own news and stories ActivitiesWe have had various speakers come to talk to us since we were formed. These have included: -
Do you have any other ideas/suggestions for topics, if so let us know. If there are certain aspects or topics that we would like to get more information about then we try and arrange for the appropriate speakers to come and visit us.
